History of the Faculty of Technology and Community Development, Thaksin University


  • Faculty of Technology and Community Development, Thaksin University, was established by resolution of the Thaksin University Council in meeting No. 8/1997 on July 12, 1997, under the name "Project to Establish the Faculty of Agricultural Technology." The objective is to produce qualified personnel meeting academic standards in fields related to agriculture and agro-industry to serve the needs of institutions, organizations, and society. This aligns with Thailand's strategy for developing and promoting Thailand's agriculture and agro-industry to be strong and sustainable as according to the 9th National Economic and Social Development Plan. The Faculty of Technology and Community Development started accepting undergraduate students for its first curriculum in the Animal Production Technology program in the academic year of 2002 established by resolution of Thaksin University Council in the 8th meeting/1997 on July 12, 1997, using the name "Project to Establish the Faculty of Agricultural Technology." The objective is to produce personnel in fields related to agriculture and agro-industry with quality and academic standards that meet the needs of graduate users, which aligns with the strategy for developing and promoting Thailand's agriculture and agricultural industry to be solid and sustainable according to the National Economic and Social Development Plan No. 9. Faculty of Technology and Community Development accepted undergraduate students for the first curriculum in the Animal Production Technology program in the academic year 2002.

  • Later, at Thaksin University Council Meeting No. 4/2003 on August 2, 2003, it was resolved to change the name to "Faculty of Technology and Community Development" and organize teaching and learning based on the philosophy of " a people-centered focus, with the field of study serving community and society, reaching international academic excellence from the foundation of Thai society." The course is divided into two key areas of study. 

    -  The first course of study focuses on building a foundation of academic knowledge in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Economics. The objective is to provide graduates with well-rounded knowledge, morality, and ethics and use this base with their spirit to apply appropriate knowledge for community and societal development.

    - The second course of study focuses on science and technology subjects related to agriculture and agro-industry. The objective is to provide graduates with the knowledge, expertise, and skills to apply in their field of work. Its philosophy is use of appropriate technology, and that a healthy society develops with wisdom and ethics. Its vision is to  produce knowledgeable graduates, innovations in agriculture and agro-industry, being a leader in the southern region, integrating technology with local wisdom for sustainable  community development.


The Faculty of Technology and Community Development is an academic unit of Thaksin University, Phatthalung Campus which is an institution of higher education with four primary missions: production of graduates, research, educational service to society, and preservation of arts and culture.

  • Graduate production : with a mission to teach and support learning in three bachelor's degree programs:
    1) Bachelor of Science Program in Animal Science 
    2) Bachelor of Science Program in Plant Production Technology 
    3) Bachelor of Science Program in Agricultural Extension and Community Development 
  • Research aspect : with a mission to conduct research projects and produce research results that receive budgetary support from both within the university and from external agencies, and apply knowledge from this research in teaching and learning, and for the economic and social development of the nation.
  • Preservation of arts and culture : with a mission is to preserve art and culture through projects/activities to develop students and faculty personnel.
  • Academic services : with a mission is to provide educational services in various formats.
